Ford XB Falcon GT Hardtop

-Presented in 1975 Bathurst 1000 Specifications

Australia’s own muscle cars have a history of bringing big money at auctions, especially if they have a proper racing pedigree such as this pristine example.

Owned and driven by motor racing legend John Goss, the 1975 Ford XB Falcon GT Hard Top Group C muscle car is truly one of a kind.

One of only four Y395 XB Hard Tops built in June 1975; it was the only car with a manual transmission and the unique Blaze Blue paint job.

The car’s interior trim code was denoted as Trim Code B2, that’s a combination black vinyl with black cloth inserts.

Goss was the reigning champion when the car made its racing debut in 1975 with co-driver Kevin Bartlett qualifying a disappointing 10th on the grid before engine problems forced an early retirement after only 10 laps.

Nonetheless, the car has had its share of success. Ford hero Alan Moffat was behind the wheel of the GT in 1976 when he won in Adelaide and two weeks later, he finished second in the car at Lakeside in Queensland.

Moreover Jack Brabham and his son Geoff have also raced this Blaze Blue XB GT, along with Jim Richards.

This is indeed a rare piece of Australian motor racing history and should bring a tidy sum at the upcoming Sotheby’s auction on Sunday 18 April at 2.00pm in Melbourne
